I
have been in the health and wellness industry for over 10 years and
have seen many positive changes in my health and that of my clients.
The
concept of ‘food as medicine’ has been around
for centuries. Hippocrates – The Father of Modern Medicine believed
that disease was the product of diet, environmental factors
and living habits; that is still the case today.
Having
had many health issues in my early twenties (bad PMT, headaches,
migraines, crap skin, water retention, digestion issues), I set out
on a mission to get healthy after refusing to buy the next dress size
up! “I just want to be healthy”. I
remember saying these words as if it was yesterday. I really wanted
it. My desire for change was strong. The goal to get fit, lean and
strong came later. My healthy goal, along with eating better
quality foods to reduce my addiction to
carbohydrates was achieved within a very short space of
time. Of course, this didn’t happen over night. To get healthy and
stay healthy involved a level of commitment that many of my clients
struggle with.
Because
of the great results I gained through simple dietary changes, whole
body cleanses, weight training, cardio and yoga, I know its
possible to stay youthful, lean, look great and feel amazing even in
your 40’s; all without botox or anything else artificial!
The
picture you see here is me when I decided at the age of 40 to enter a
Body Fitness competition six years ago. It was my first and I came
third place
- something
I am very proud of. It was a scary experience walking out on stage in
a packed out theatre (mostly men!). I learned all my turns and poses
online (thank you You Tube!). Apart from one young lady, the rest of
my competitors were in their 40’s. I tell you this because so many
people ask me if I’ll be cutting down on my training now I’m
getting older. What the hell? No way! Exercise is part of my DNA. I
am fit, healthy and as lean as I was in my twenties; in fact I think
I look much better now. I can wear beautiful shapely dresses that
compliment my figure if I want and when I want. And that is what
drives me to keep on doing what I’m doing.
I
believe so much in the power of nutrition and its profound
impact on health, that I changed from working for someone else to
having my own business where I could share my passion and knowledge
to help women aged 40 and over who want to kick sugar to the
curb, eat well, be healthy, look young and stay young.
